I usually set a goal each year to read 50 books, but I decided to be more realistic this year and set my goal at 35 books. Here's a list of 19 books I'm hoping to finish in 2019.
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn I already finished this book and it was amazing. It's a thriller about a woman who returns to her hometown when two young girls are murdered. It was made into an HBO series last year, starring Amy Adams.
Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan My aunt and I bought matching copies of this book for my birthday in July, so I thought maybe I should read it finally. It's a hilarious satire about a group of insanely wealthy families from Singapore.
The Black Echo by Michael Connelly Another thriller! I read one of Connelly's other books last year and it was amazing. This one is his first book ever, and the first in the Harry Bosch series. It's about a man solving the murder of a fellow Vietnam veteran.
The Black Ice by Michael Connelly One of the categories in my local library's reading challenge is "A book with a weather element in the title." According to their suggestion list, ice counts, so I decided to go ahead and read the second book in the Harry Bosch series as well. I think it's about, like, drugs or something.
Atonement by Ian McEwan I went to the library and they were giving out free books, and my mom said this one was good so I got it. It's an emotionally intense book about a girl trying to atone for her own sin.
Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown A nonfiction book about the difference between fitting in and true belonging.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding This book was assigned to me, but I'm looking forward to reading it again because it was my favorite book that was assigned to me in high school.
The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown Another thriller. This one is about art history and Christian mythology.
The Help by Kathryn Stockett This has been on my list for ages. It's about civil rights.
In the Woods by Tana French This is a murder mystery by my mom's favorite author.
Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell I was assigned to read a few chapters of this book for my cognitive development class in my first year of college. In this book, Malcolm Gladwell explains that success is much more complex than we generally perceive it to be.
A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway I love Hemingway's short story "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" so I decided to read one of his novels.
Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie I was telling my friend how much I love thrillers and he said "You should read Agatha Christie" and I was like "Yeah, I should."
Winter's Bone by Daniel Woodrell A mystery about a girl trying to find her dad after he gets out of jail for manufacturing methamphetamine.
Born A Crime by Trevor Noah Trevor Noah is super cute and funny, so I thought his autobiography would be fun to read.
All the Wrong Questions #1: Who Could That Be At This Hour? by Lemony Snicket I'm in a Children's Lit class this semester, so I decided to read this for one of my free choice books. This is the first book in a series that serves as a prequel to A Series of Unfortunate Events. It's about a young boy beginning a detective apprenticeship.
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by CS Lewis This was assigned to my Children's Lit class and it was amazing. I wish I'd read it when I was younger.
Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson This was one of my free choice books for my Children's Lit class. I knew it was going to be a sad book, but it was way sadder than I expected. It was also totally amazing.
Holes by Louis Sachar This was also assigned to my Children's Lit class and it was probably my favorite book of the semester. If you haven't read it, you really should, no matter how old you are.
