Top 5 Wednesday- Favorite Unlikeable Protagonists

1. Raskolnikov (Crime and Punishment)

He murdered an old lady, so he's pretty unlikeable. Plus he thinks he's better than everyone else. But I can't help but feel sympathy for him as he is slowly overcome with guilt.

2. Hamlet (Hamlet)

The entire time I was reading this play, I just wanted to grab Hamlet by the shoulders and yell "Quit waffling!" in his face. I'm an incredibly indecisive person, so I guess that makes me a hypocrite but whatever. Despite my frustrations with Hamlet, though, I still feel bad for him and want him to succeed.

3. Oedipus (Oedipus Rex)

He's pretty dumb and doesn't listen to anything the Oracle says even though he's an oracle. But finding out that your wife is actually your mom, and being so grieved that you blind yourself? That's a little harsh.

4. Nora (A Doll's House)

She's super immature and doesn't seem to understand anything about how the world works. Also the fact that she leaves her family at the end is frustrating. But it's hard not to be sympathetic toward her once you realize that she's been controlled by men her entire life.

5. Grace Ansley and Alida Slade (Roman Fever)

Writing a fake letter to your friend so they'll go to the Colloseum and get malaria is pretty rude. Going to the Colloseum and sleeping with your best friend's husband is also pretty rude.

Finding out that your friend wrote a fake letter so you'd go to the Colloseum is pretty devastating.

Finding out that your friend went to the Colloseum and slept with your husband is also pretty devastating.
